Last month, me and several other members of the Wainwright lab ran an exhibit at UC Davis’s annual Biodiversity Museum Day. At the event, museums across campus are opened to the public so that children and adults can learn about collections at the university (such as the natural history collections at the Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology). We setup an exhibit using the ichthyology collection focused around fun facts about the ecology and evolution of some of the unique fish that have been collected and preserved there. The event went well and was really well attended. I think we got a lot of people excited about cool aspects of fish biology and the importance of natural history collections to teaching and research. Looking forward to doing this again next year!
